Atlantic station Metro Gold line

When this photo was taken the canopy of sails that offers shelter from the summer sun was still white.  We wonder how it will look after a few years of smog and car exhaust pollution. And if it was designed to stand up to Santa Ana winds.

Across the street is a building in what could be called "Mexican Modern" architecture: severe geometry tempered by brilliant color.  While there appears to be no connection between the building and the station, they definitely are color coordinated.

Sculpture at Atlantic station Metro Gold line East Los Angeles
And this dazzling piece of sculpture stands bravely at the end of the Atlantic Station on the Metro Gold Line. It appears to be a beautiful  demonstration of the auto customizer's art. We certainly hope that someone keeps it as clean and brilliant as it is today, in January 2010. All the art works at the Atlantic Station are by the Adobe LA art collective.

At first glance the food choices in the area look bleak: a Subway and a McDonalds dominate the corner.  But walk one block to the street behind the strip mall and you will find Bob's Freeze-- yummy ice cream and banana splits--and, right next door, Fish Taco Express.
