Fillmore Station

Nearest cross streets:  Arroyo Parkway and Fillmore
Parking: enter on Raymond just south of Fillmore.  Free parking fills up early on weekdays.
Schedule: Every 15 minutes during daytime

If you are going to a doctor in Pasadena the chances are good that her office will be within walking distance of the Fillmore station. The Huntington Hospital is about three blocks from the station and it is surrounded by building after building full of medical offices and facilities.

Fillmore station weather vane art A tall weather vane is the art work at Fillmore station. Is the message: "Metro train travel is the way the wind is blowing?"

For seating there are old fashioned steamer travel trunks spread along the platform.

Gold Line Fillmore station art detail
The art on the base of the weather vane tower  is intriguing. Take a closer look and you will see, in the photo above, houses lining a train track--let's assume it is the Metro Gold Line--then six lanes of traffic on a freeway.  Does one Metro Line equal six lanes of jam-packed freeway?

Rose Palace near Fillmore Gold Line station
Two floats for the Rose Parade are traditionally constructed and decorated at the Rose Palace on Raymond about a block south of the Fillmore station. (Most floats are created out in Irwindale in gigantic barns.)

You can take a tour of the Rose Palace for a fee during the week before the Rose Parade.  Or you can volunteer to work on the floats--for free.  Expect to work an 8 hour shift in an unheated building if you volunteer.

The Rose Palace is not the headquarters for the Tournament of Roses.  The official headquarters--actually the old Wrigley Mansion--is on Orange Grove Avenue about a mile and a half away.
