Wrigley Mansion Pasadena California

Originally owned by the Wrigley family--yes, the Wrigley of chewing gum fame--this mansion is now the headquarters for the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena California.

On January 1st the flower-covered floats in the annual Rose Parade roll up Orange Grove Ave. then along Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena.  While on TV the event may be two hours long, in fact, planning for it is a year-long effort conducted within the walls of the old Wrigley mansion on Orange Grove.  (The floats are built elsewhere.)

And what would a celebration of roses be without a rose garden!

Pergola Tournament of Roses garden Just to the right of the Tournament of Roses headquarters is a pergola that frames the front of the rose garden.

Lava Glut roses Pasadena California This carefully tended garden blooms opulently during summer months.  The photo is of Lava Glut red roses.

The roses on the floats for the parade come from around the world.  In January this rose garden is bare, waiting for hot summer weather.

Park on Arbor St. to visit the Tournament of Roses garden.  There is no admission fee.

Pasadena's newest public garden, Arlington Garden, is less than a mile away.  Drive down Orange Grove to Arlington and turn left.  It is a California/Mediterranean garden.
